Standard Normal Distribution Table Definition: - The standard normal distribution table gives the probability of a value being between a particular value of z and the mean. The whole number and tenths- palace appear in the first column of the table. Across the top of the table are the values of the hundredths place portion of the z score. To read the z score table, we always start from z=0, which represents the mean of standard normal distribution table. Standard normal curve is like a bell shape and it is symmetric figure, which means area on the each side of the mean are equally distributed and equal to 0.5. Although the values of z on the left side of the mean are negative, the area under the curve is always positive for both positive z score and negative z score because z table represent the area under the curve and area cannot give a negative value. Example: - Find the area of between z=0 and 1.06. Solution: - Find 1.0 (the portion of this z score from the z table) from the first column. For this z score, the hundredths- place value is 6, so find 0.06 from the top of the table. Since 1.06= 1.0+0.06. Then take the intersection value of 1.0 and 0.06 which is 0.3554. Another example: - Find the area between z= 0 and 2.72. Solution: - From the z table area under z=0 and 2.72 is 0.4967

The personal statement should be well written, interesting and tell a story; it should not be a narrative version of the applicants resume. An admissions officer wants to come away from reading an applicants personal statement thinking, Here is a talented, self-aware, mature, insightful, and interesting person who will add something unique and positive to our law school community and to our profession. Is there anything on a students application that would automatically disqualify him or her from being considered for the program? Anne:No. Everything in an application is considered, weighed, and evaluated. There is no one factor that would automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for admission. That said, if an applicant exhibits extremely poor judgment or has a pattern of serious criminal/disciplinary issues, the applicant likely is facing a pretty steep uphill climb. What about the law school admissions process differs the most from undergraduate admissions? Anne:In many ways, the process is very similar. Both law school and undergraduate admissions officers are looking to admit applicants who demonstrate academic ability and who will add something positive to their institutions. In the law school admissions process, professional experience (work experience, internship experience, etc.) as well as academic work at the college and postgraduate levels, are important factors. What kinds of things (experience, grades, etc.) might a student lack that would lead you to advise him or her not to apply? Anne:If an individual has not been able to excel in his or her undergraduate studies and has a very weak LSAT score, law school might not be the right choice. Law school is primarily an academic exercise, and one needs to be able to handle a rigorous curriculum. If one has not been able to handle challenging courses at the college level and is not able to master the skills necessary to perform well on the LSAT, the likelihood of being able to succeed in a law school program is slim. Is there anything you might see on a students application that would quickly put him or her ahead in the running? Anne:A very strong academic record and a strong LSAT score are very good starting points. What advice do you have regarding LSAT test prep? Anne:Prepare, practice and get comfortable with the test! No one should go into the LSAT cold just to see what will happen, figuring he or she can always take it again. The goal should be to prepare adequately, take the test once and be done with it. Applicants should explore the different methods of LSAT preparation that are available and determine what will work best for them. Make no sense or have no sense When can I say have no sense and make no sense? Is have no sense ever correct? One of my students wrote this sentence in a narrative writing assignment: I tried to explain to him that this situation just have no sense. Can you see what the problem is? In fact, he has made two errors in one. The first is a verb agreement error, and the second is a word choice error. The subject this situation is singular, and so any verb that follows it should take an -s at the end in order to make it agree. We call this kind of error a third person singular agreement error. Here is the correction for this kind of error. I tried to explain to him that this situation just has no sense. The second problem is a little harder for learners to fix on their own. The reason is that you need a wide exposure to English or a corpus to work out the rule. Can you say have no sense? Yes, you can say have no sense but not in the way my student has used it. If you check a corpus for no sense, you get this: As you can see, there is one example of have no sense in the phrase have no sense of shame. It is less common than make/makes/made no sense, but it is definitely possible.
